It's Not Goodbye

Saturday the twenty-sixth of April, twenty thirty-one, Luana and Thiago's flat, the morning after the removal van and the day before the flight to Salvador. Three boxes, a bare floor, Maria and Alice on it, and a card from the daycare with the little hands of the whole babies' room. Carla brings Rafael's coffee, Dona Lucia a cake for the plane, and Luana, who can't swim, is going to live ten minutes from the beach. At noon, the goodbye the four adults have been putting off since March, and the one the two girls don't understand. The last lesson of Part One, with a line from each of its lessons.
