PART 1 · LESSON 10 OF 30 · 33 MINUTES

It's Not Goodbye

Saturday the twenty-sixth of April, twenty thirty-one, Luana and Thiago's flat, the morning after the removal van and the day before the flight to Salvador. Three boxes, a bare floor, Maria and Alice on it, and a card from the daycare with the little hands of the whole babies' room. Carla brings Rafael's coffee, Dona Lucia a cake for the plane, and Luana, who can't swim, is going to live ten minutes from the beach. At noon, the goodbye the four adults have been putting off since March, and the one the two girls don't understand. The last lesson of Part One, with a line from each of its lessons. Say "it's not goodbye, it's see you soon", "we're going to miss you, every day", "keep in touch, every week" and "there, there's a grandmother. Here, you ask for help".

THE STORY

Saturday the twenty-sixth of April, twenty thirty-one, ten in the morning, Luana and Thiago's flat. The furniture left in the van on Friday. Three boxes by the door, a bare floor, and on it Maria, twenty-one months, and Alice, almost seventeen, with a paper umbrella between them. Pipoca stayed at home. A card from Aunt Cris with every little hand of the babies' room, Carla at eleven with coffee from Sol Street, Dona Lucia with a cake for the plane, and at noon, at the door, the goodbye the four adults have been putting off since March. This is the conversation you'll be able to say by the end of the lesson.
