PART 3 · LESSON 28 OF 30 · 33 MINUTES
What Name Have You Chosen?
Saturday the twelfth of October, a public holiday, Alice's baptism in the chapel on the farm. The priest's questions, "what name have you chosen for this child", "what do you ask for her", "do you promise to bring Alice up in the faith", and the answer with the formal we, "we promise". The words every Brazilian baptism has, "I baptise you in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit", Grandma Nena's verdict on a crying baby, "a good sign, that's the bad coming out", and the old you that Brazil kept only in its prayers. At lunch, a bet on Alice's first word, and at night, the blessing a grandson asks for on the farm.
