PART 2 · LESSON 13 OF 30 · 40 MINUTES
I Do Agree, It's Just That
Mother's Day, and Bia's first as a mother. Her mother has come down from Belo Horizonte, and over lunch, plans for June arrive from three directions, from Dona Rosa, from Susan on video, and from Dona Marta on the seventh floor. Bia has to say no to her mother without saying no. Disagree the soft Brazilian way, "I do agree, Mum, it's just that...", and offer something else as a question, "wouldn't it be better if you came here?"

THE STORY
Sunday the twelfth of May, twenty thirty, Mother's Day in Brazil, and Bia's first as a mother. Her mother, Dona Rosa, came down from Belo Horizonte on Friday. At one o'clock, over the lunch Daniel has made, Dona Rosa announces her plan for June. Half an hour later, Susan has a plan too, on video from Chicago, and then Dona Marta comes up from the seventh floor with a cake, and a plan of her own. Bia has to say no to her mother, without saying no. This is the conversation you'll be able to say by the end of the lesson.
