PART 1 · LESSON 10 OF 30 · 40 MINUTES
Two Passports and No Teeth
The last lesson of Part One. Alice is four months old, the American passport has come at last, and Dona Marta comes up with a cornmeal cake and one candle. That night both passports go into the kitchen drawer, and Bia counts the days left of her leave. Say "she has two passports and no teeth" and "since she was born, we've been learning everything", say how long is left, and go back over Part One, from the first night to the first fever.

THE STORY
Thursday the fourth of April, twenty thirty. Alice is four months old today. At half past six in the evening, Daniel comes home from the office, and Bia is waiting at the kitchen table with an envelope from the American consulate. Then the doorbell rings, and it's Dona Marta, with a cornmeal cake and one candle. At nine, with Alice asleep, Bia opens the kitchen drawer, and starts counting. This is the conversation you'll be able to say by the end of the lesson.
