PART 1 · LESSON 3 OF 30 · 30 MINUTES

Whatever Happens, I'm Home on Friday

Monday the sixth of January, twenty thirty-one, four in the morning in Botafogo, the alarm, the taxi downstairs and the six o'clock flight, the first of a year of Mondays. At ten, in the office by the river, Edson has the coffee on and a list, and Daniel makes two calls, to Larissa, who has said no to Sao Paulo once already, and to Rodrigo, who says yes before the sentence is finished. At eight, on video, Alice's first day back at the daycare, where Maria has moved up again. On Friday, Pipoca came back up from the seventh floor with a new blanket, and on Sunday, at the cafe, Carla said who collects Alice at five. Say "whatever happens", "whatever it costs" and "be that as it may", with the verb twice.

THE STORY

Monday the sixth of January, twenty thirty-one, four in the morning, the kitchen in Botafogo. The alarm has just gone off. Alice, thirteen months old, is asleep in the yellow room, Pipoca is on the sofa on a new blanket from the seventh floor, and the taxi is on its way. The six o'clock flight lands before nine, and Fernanda wants Daniel in the office by the river at ten, where Edson has the coffee on, a list, and two calls to make. At eight that night, on video, Alice's first day back at the daycare. This is the conversation you'll be able to say by the end of the lesson.
