PART 1 · LESSON 2 OF 30 · 33 MINUTES Free
In Return, He's Home Every Friday
Monday the thirtieth of December, nine in the morning in Susan's kitchen, noon in Rio. Alice's mother makes the video call to Fernanda, with Daniel beside her and a sheet of paper in front of her, and negotiates every term, one year, two whole weeks a month and never in her own Sao Paulo week, home every Friday without exception, the raise in writing, two tickets a year for her and Alice. Fernanda has come prepared too, and adds the one thing nobody asked for. Susan hears every word from the stove. The next night, New Year's Eve at the edge of the frozen lake, lentils in a pocket, seven jumps in the snow and a wish. Learn the register of a negotiation, "we are willing to accept, for one year", "in return", "no exceptions", "in writing".
