Telling Mister Kimura
Monday the twenty-eighth of August, five in the afternoon, Sakura English, the afternoon classes over. Ben asks Mister Kimura for a little of his time, finds it hard to say, and says it. Mister Kimura's answer is two words, and then it is long, and kind. He has known since June. In the teachers' room, Mike is head teacher from October, and says the line from his wedding card again, for real this time. At six, from the empty classroom, Ben phones Osaka with his answer. Learn to open what is hard to say (iinikui n desu ga), to ask leave to quit, humbly (kugatsu de yamesasete itadakitai n desu), to say you knew (shitte imashita yo), and the humblest yes there is (zehi, yarasete itadakitai to omoimasu).

THE STORY
Monday, the twenty-eighth of August, twenty twenty-eight. Five o'clock, Sakura English, near Ueno. The afternoon classes are over, Mike is marking in the teachers' room, and Ben has been standing outside the office door for a minute. Yesterday was easy, Yui asked and he answered. Today he has to say it first, to the man who hired him three years ago. At half past five there is Mike, and at six, from the empty classroom on the third floor, a phone call to Osaka. This is the conversation you'll be able to say by the end of the lesson.
