Thank You, Teacher
On the last day of the April Fair, the nurses honour Rosario in their tent, and Sarah, her last student, has to make a speech in Spanish in front of two hundred midwives. Say a few words, I didn't even know, you taught me to, I owe you more than I can say, I want you to come to my wedding, and thank someone in public, the way it's done in Spain.

Two hundred midwives and nurses, in flamenco dresses and suits, have come to honour Rosario, who retires in June after thirty-two years. The director of the school of midwives has spoken, and the head of the hospital has spoken. Now it's Sarah's turn, and her hands are shaking. Then the family at the back of the tent, Pepa just off the train from Cadiz, and a question Sarah has been saving for a month. This is the conversation you'll be able to say by the end of the lesson.
