Ms. Endo reads Hana's day from the daycare notebook: she ate heartily, grizzled a little, slept soundly, held on to the shelf and stood for the first time, and burst out laughing at herself, while her parents were at work, which Ms. Endo says is the rule.

THE STORY

The daycare gate at six in the evening, Ms. Endo with the notebook open, Hana in Yui's arms. Ben and Yui are polite with Ms. Endo, and she with them; Ben and Yui are plain with each other.
