PART 2 · LESSON 12 OF 30 · 33 MINUTES

Moving On to the Numbers

Tuesday the twenty-seventh of May, twenty thirty-one, nine in the morning, Gilmar's boardroom in Porto Alegre. Daniel comes without a coat, drinks the tea without a word, and presents with the signs of February and three new ones, Larissa on the numbers. It goes well until the last page, where Gilmar says one word that means capable everywhere else in Brazil and no way in the South, and the room laughs. Daniel asks for the floor back, finishes, and says thank you only at the end. At six, on video, Alice has a fifth word, and it is the one her father has been sending her for two days. Say "moving on now to the numbers", "no way, not at that price", "it's outside our budget", "I'd like to ask for the floor, I haven't finished yet", "this brings us to the price" and "in other words".

THE STORY

Tuesday the twenty-seventh of May, twenty thirty-one, nine in the morning, the top floor of Gilmar's company in Porto Alegre. A long table, Gilmar's people around it, the thermos at his elbow. Larissa has kept her coat on, and Daniel has none. The gourd goes round before a word of business, and this time Daniel says nothing and gets it back. Then he stands up and presents, with the signs of February and three new ones, until Gilmar turns to the last page. At six, on video, his wife has news about a word. This is the conversation you'll be able to say by the end of the lesson.
