PART 2 · LESSON 13 OF 30 · 32 MINUTES

Let's Meet Halfway

Wednesday the twenty-eighth of May, twenty thirty-one, eight at night, a steakhouse in Porto Alegre. Daniel comes in a coat, bought that afternoon, the waiter never stops coming, and the first offer is written on a napkin. Gilmar wants everything ready in two months and holds his deadline, Daniel holds his price, and nobody moves, until the man who has bargained for forty years says the sentence that moves a negotiation. Nothing is signed. Say "let's meet halfway", "the proposal is as follows", "I give way on the deadline, in return you give way on the price", "a discount, a small one, in exchange for the deadline", "I'll answer after talking to my team" and "today, we don't close the deal, Friday, the proposal in writing".

THE STORY

Wednesday the twenty-eighth of May, twenty thirty-one, eight at night, a steakhouse in Porto Alegre, where the meat comes to the table on long skewers and the waiter never stops coming. Gilmar at the head of the table, Larissa in her coat, and Daniel in one too, bought that afternoon. A napkin, a pen, two prices and one deadline, and the sentence a man has used for forty years. This is the conversation you'll be able to say by the end of the lesson.
