PART 2 · LESSON 14 OF 30 · 32 MINUTES
She Offered Me the Department
Saturday the seventh of June, twenty thirty-one, eight in the morning, the kitchen in Botafogo, both parents home and the fridge calendar a year long. On Friday at four, Regina, her director in Sao Paulo, offered Alice's mother the head of her department, two weeks a month in Sao Paulo from January, and she kept the news for the breakfast table. This time Daniel is the one who is asked, and he hears himself start to say what his wife said in May of last year. Two careers at one table, a calendar that can't hold ten days plus ten days, and Alice, eighteen months, saying no to the banana. Say "she offered me the head of the department", "the head of the department retires in December", "this time, the one being asked is me", "even if I want to, you're the one who decides" and "even if I say no, I liked being asked".
