PART 3 · LESSON 21 OF 30 · 32 MINUTES

They Run Together and Don't Mix

Sunday the seventh of September, twenty thirty-one, Independence Day. Part Three begins in the North. In Manaus, four hours from Rio by air and one hour behind it, thirty-four degrees and air you can drink, the client's manager meets Daniel at arrivals with the word her city puts in front of everything, and a you with its own verb. In the afternoon, a boat to the meeting of the waters, where a dark river and a light one run side by side for kilometres without mixing, and a photo for Aunt Cris. On Monday, a factory the size of a neighbourhood, and a first meeting that goes well enough for a warning. Say "the air is so humid you could drink it", "they run together and don't mix", "this factory is the size of a neighbourhood", and hear the North speak, with its own you.
