PART 3 · LESSON 25 OF 30 · 40 MINUTES
It Goes Down Like Water
On Saturday April 29th, the night before the April Fair begins, Manolo gets the whole family into his cousin's tent for the fried-fish dinner, where there's sherry with lemonade and a dance in four parts that Encarna insists on teaching. At midnight, the lights of the Fair go on. Ask do you have to pay to get in?, say you have to know someone, it goes down like water, they've all come on at once, and spend the first two days of the Fair in Spanish.

THE STORY
It's Saturday April 29th, ten at night, the night before the April Fair begins. On the fairground, more than a thousand striped tents have opened for the first dinner of the Fair, and the paper lanterns over the streets are still dark. Sarah and Julian, her parents, Emily, and Encarna in her best earrings follow Manolo through the crowd to his cousin's tent, with a little bar at the back and music coming out of it. At midnight, the lights go on. This is the conversation you'll be able to say by the end of the lesson.
