PART 2 · LESSON 12 OF 30 · 40 MINUTES
Now Let Me Run
Two weeks into Julian's new job, Professor Ortega is still in his office every single day, correcting his index cards with a red pencil, and last night Ortega's wife phoned Julian at home. Speak the language of telling someone gently to let go - he retired but he hasn't noticed, he needs a little push, I'd have done it differently, with all the affection in the world, you passed me the baton, now let me run, are you throwing me out, nobody's asking you to forget it, I'll suggest something - and find out where Ortega's wife wants to go.

THE STORY
It's Tuesday, September 18th, 2029. For two weeks, since Julian's first day at the Archive, Professor Ortega has dropped in every single day, "just for a minute". Last night at eleven, his wife phoned Julian at home. She was very polite and very clear. This morning, Ortega has been sitting on the edge of Julian's table since nine, reading Julian's index cards with a red pencil, and Julian has been practising what to say all morning. At eleven, over a coffee across from the cathedral, the two of them make a deal. This is the conversation you'll be able to say by the end of the lesson.
