PART 3 · LESSON 21 OF 30 · 40 MINUTES
By Then I'll Have Finished
It's the welcome day of Sarah's midwife course, and in the courtyard she meets Ivan, the only man in the class, who is afraid of fainting. Say what you will have done by a certain time - by December you'll have learned, by then I'll have finished, by the end of the year he'll have lost his fear - and talk about a course, its schedule, a new classmate and the first exam.

THE STORY
It's Monday, the third of August, the welcome day at the school of midwifery. The old colonial house smells of fresh paint and coffee. Twenty new students sit in the courtyard under the bougainvillea, in new blue uniforms. Sarah sits down next to a tall young man who looks very nervous. Then the director walks in. At the break, Sarah finds out why he's there, and at eight, Julian is waiting at the gate. This is the conversation you'll be able to say by the end of the lesson.
