PART 2 · LESSON 12 OF 30 · 40 MINUTES
How Big They Are
On Wednesday, December 23rd, the main square of Oaxaca fills with sculptures carved from giant radishes, and the queue goes all the way round it. Say how big, how beautiful, how well made something is; say the strange thing, the hard thing, the best thing is; talk about a queue, a nativity scene, carvings and a prize; and make a wish over a plate of fritters.

THE STORY
It's Wednesday the twenty-third of December, the Night of the Radishes. For more than a hundred years, the farmers of Oaxaca have carved giant red radishes into sculptures for this one night. The queue goes all the way round the main square. After two hours, Sarah and Julian reach the first table, where an old man is spraying his radishes with water. Later, there are fritters, a clay plate, and a wish. This is the conversation you'll be able to say by the end of the lesson.
