PART 3 · LESSON 25 OF 30 · 40 MINUTES
It Could Have Been Worse
The morning after the storm, the beach in Puerto Escondido is covered in branches, and the only road home over the mountains is closed by a landslide. Say it could have been worse, say what would have happened if you hadn't done something, talk about damage, offer to help clean up, and call work and school to say you can't come.

THE STORY
It's Monday, the seventeenth of August. The sun is out over Puerto Escondido as if nothing had happened, but the beach is covered in branches, palm leaves and plastic, and half the town is outside with brooms and rakes. Sarah and Julian walk down to Mateo's surf school, where Don Chuy is already talking to him. Today, they were supposed to go home. This is the conversation you'll be able to say by the end of the lesson.
