PART 3 · LESSON 22 OF 30 · 40 MINUTES

Three Hundred Curves

It's a long weekend in the middle of August, and Sarah and Julian take a small van over the mountains to Puerto Escondido. Ask how long the trip takes, ask for a seat at the front, say you get dizzy and you look pale, ask how much further, ask the driver to stop, say you can see the clouds below, and check in at a little hotel by the beach.

THE STORY

It's Friday, the fourteenth of August, a long weekend, and Sarah's first since the course began. At six in the morning, she and Julian buy two tickets at the van station in Oaxaca. Three hours later, the small white van is climbing the Sierra Sur on the way to Puerto Escondido, the road twists through pine trees and mist, and Sarah has gone very quiet. In the afternoon, a little hotel by the beach is waiting for them. This is the conversation you'll be able to say by the end of the lesson.
