PART 1 · LESSON 7 OF 30 · 40 MINUTES
Someone Who Knows
On the night before the wedding, Father Tomas rehearses the ceremony in the empty cathedral. Sarah has to learn how to put the cord on the bride and groom, Julian loses the rings for a moment, Don Roberto walks too fast, and at dinner Julian nearly gives away Diego's secret. Ask if there's anyone who knows, say there's nobody who, say you're looking for someone who can, and talk about the rings, the coins, the cord and the order of a Mexican church wedding.

THE STORY
It's Friday evening, the eighteenth of December, the night before the wedding. The cathedral is almost empty, and every footstep echoes. Father Tomas, a tall, patient priest, stands at the altar with a notebook. Valeria and Diego are holding hands, Julian has the rings in his pocket, and Sarah is holding a long white cord of silk and pearls as if it might bite her. During the rehearsal, Don Roberto marches his daughter down the aisle much too fast, and at dinner, Dona Carmen remembers her own wedding. This is the conversation you'll be able to say by the end of the lesson.
