PART 2 · LESSON 11 OF 30 · 40 MINUTES
It's Not That I Didn't Want To
Monday night, back in Oaxaca, Julian comes to Sarah's balcony with tamales and a folder full of papers, and explains why he never mentioned the grant, and what his project is about. Then the harder question, what a year in Seville would mean for her course. Say it's not that, it's that; the fact that you didn't tell me hurt a little; forgive me; I'm not going to ask you to give it up; am I forgiven; and talk about nuns, convents and letters three hundred years old.

THE STORY
It's Monday night, back in Oaxaca. The city is getting ready for Christmas, and there are paper flags strung across the street below Sarah's balcony. Julian has brought tamales from the market and a folder full of papers. He hasn't said much since the plane. This is the conversation you'll be able to say by the end of the lesson.
