PART 2 · LESSON 17 OF 30 · 40 MINUTES
Water Under the Bridge
On the maternity ward at four in the morning, a nurse with twenty years there keeps passing her work to Sarah, and calling her "the American". Tonight, Sarah stands her ground, and by six they are drinking coffee from the machine. Speak the language of setting limits at work - my name is, that one's yours, not mine, a favour is once, you're keeping count, don't be like that, I'm saying it nicely, don't take it the wrong way, water under the bridge - and make peace before the shift ends.

THE STORY
It's Monday, October 22nd, 2029, four in the morning, on the maternity ward of the hospital. The corridor lights are dimmed, a monitor beeps in the distance, and Sarah has just finished her own paperwork. Remedios, a nurse with twenty years on the ward and an opinion about everything, has passed her a job on every night they've shared this week, always with a smile, and always calling her "the American". She's coming down the corridor now, with a folder in her hand. At five, a mother in bed twelve has a scare, and at six, Remedios comes back with two coffees. This is the conversation you'll be able to say by the end of the lesson.
