PART 3 · LESSON 28 OF 30 · 40 MINUTES
A Midwife, Not an Exam
On Spain's fools' day, four weeks before the exam, Rosario and Pepa come up from Cadiz with a cake, a joke, and the advice Rosario has been saving since her own exam. Speak the language of last advice and nerves - listen carefully, I'm all ears, the night before, not even a little, what you don't know, what if my mind goes blank, then you carry on, I won't have time, fooled you.

THE STORY
It's Friday, December 28th, 2029, the Day of the Holy Innocents, Spain's fools' day. Five in the afternoon, on the terrace of the top-floor flat, in a pale winter sun. Rosario and Pepa have come up from Cadiz on the train, with a cake from the best bakery in Cadiz and a folder of Rosario's old notes, held together with an elastic band. The exam is on Saturday, January 26th. Sarah has been studying since six this morning. Rosario takes off her glasses, and puts her hand on Sarah's. This is the conversation you'll be able to say by the end of the lesson.
