PART 2 · LESSON 13 OF 30 · 40 MINUTES
For Me, or As Far As I'm Concerned
On Christmas Eve, Sarah spends the night with Julian's family in his village, Teotitlan. She brings the blue plate for his mother, Julian tells his parents and his grandmother about Seville, and at midnight it's Sarah who lays the baby Jesus in the nativity scene. Use the two words for "for" - thanks for, for you, for a year, by the time, as far as I'm concerned, in my eyes - and share a Mexican Christmas Eve.

THE STORY
It's Christmas Eve in Julian's village, half an hour from Oaxaca. The village smells of woodsmoke and wet wool, and there are candles in every window. Julian's family live in a house of adobe and wood, with a loom in the courtyard and a nativity scene that takes up half the living room. His mother opens the door in her best embroidered blouse. Later, Julian has news to tell, and at midnight, someone has to lay the baby Jesus in the nativity scene. This is the conversation you'll be able to say by the end of the lesson.
