PART 2 · LESSON 15 OF 30 · 40 MINUTES
I Wish I Could Help You
On New Year's Eve at Elena's blue house, with twelve grapes each, everyone makes resolutions, and Sarah makes the same wish twelve times without saying what it is. Say you're going to stop doing something or start doing something, tell "I hope I can" from "I wish I could", say you mean it, and see the new year in the Mexican way, from the broom in the afternoon to the suitcase round the block.

THE STORY
It's New Year's Eve, at Elena's blue house. In the afternoon, Elena swept the old year out of the front door. Now the table is covered with bowls of pozole and little cups of grapes, the television is on with the countdown from Mexico City, and Don Roberto is opening the cider. Five minutes to midnight. Afterwards, Sarah and Julian walk round the block, each pulling a suitcase, and talk about the year ahead. This is the conversation you'll be able to say by the end of the lesson.
