PART 2 · LESSON 13 OF 30 · 40 MINUTES
Needs Must
Emily has been in Seville for eleven days, for a year at the university, and Sarah takes her to the foreigners' office - to the same desk, and the same official, as two years ago. That evening, Emily phones their father, who still doesn't know which city she's in. Speak the language of paperwork from the other side - you again, this time I'm not here for me, you're missing, translated and with the apostille, I see you've learned, needs must, that's it, that easy - and the art of the half-truth on the phone.

THE STORY
It's Friday, September 21st, 2029, nine in the morning, at the foreigners' office in Seville. Emily landed eleven days ago with two suitcases, a guitar and a letter from the university, and Curro met her at the airport with flowers. Today she needs her student card, and Sarah has come with her, carrying a plastic folder with copies of everything, twice. Their number comes up. The official at the desk looks up, and Sarah recognises him at once. He recognises her too. That evening, Emily phones their father in Boston. He knows she's in Spain for a year. He doesn't know which city. This is the conversation you'll be able to say by the end of the lesson.
