PART 2 · LESSON 16 OF 30 · 30 MINUTES
Call Me Ignacio
It's Thursday, March 28th, back in Seville. At the cafe across from the cathedral, Julian puts the photographs in front of Ortega at last, and at noon, in the office that was Ortega's for forty years, Ortega lifts his faded green cushion. Say how long you'd been waiting - I'd been waiting forty years for this - offer to share and say no - the book has to be both of ours, this book is yours, but I'll write the prologue, I'm dedicating it to you - turn down a permission - you can change it now, I wouldn't dream of it - drop the polite you at last, and give in, in writing.

THE STORY
It's Thursday, March 28th, 2030, eleven in the morning, at the cafe across from the cathedral in Seville. Julian has been back from Mexico since Sunday, and he hasn't said a word at the Archive. Ortega first. He lays the photographs on the table, Sister Isabel's letters beside the book of births. At noon, in Julian's office, the archivist compares them with the originals, and Ortega lifts the faded green cushion on his old chair. At nine that night, the publisher answers by email. This is the conversation you'll be able to say by the end of the lesson.
