PART 2 · LESSON 13 OF 30 · 40 MINUTES
She Has My Name
It's Tuesday, March 19th, in Oaxaca. Sarah takes Encarna and Julian to the clinic where she was a nurse, and Rocio comes with her daughter Sara, almost four, who was named after Sarah. Encarna hears Mexico's Spanish again, and Sarah translates both ways. Explain what a word means in another country - in Mexico, that means she's shy, in Seville, my weapon means my soul - and tell someone what they meant to you - on the day of the exam my mind went blank, I thought of you, the first mother I helped.

THE STORY
It's Tuesday, March 19th, 2030, ten in the morning, in Oaxaca. On Sunday, Sarah, Julian and Encarna took the bus south from Mexico City with Valeria and Isabel, and they're staying at the old convent of Saint Catherine, now a hotel, as they did for the wedding. This morning Sarah goes back to the clinic where she was a nurse. Lupita is at the desk, Doctor Ruiz is in her office, and Rocio is on her way, with the little girl who has Sarah's name. Encarna hears Mexico's Spanish again, and Sarah translates both ways. This is the conversation you'll be able to say by the end of the lesson.
