🇪🇸 Spanish · Fluency Level 3

PART 3 · LESSON 26 OF 30 · 33 MINUTES

You've Done Your Homework

Friday evening in Triana. Mom and Dad arrive for the summer, as promised, and this year Encarna takes them up in her lift. Dad has studied all year, Encarna's homework, and he means to use it on her. Four floors, three questions, and a verdict at the top. At dinner, Emily's phone buzzes with an email from the university. Say how you got here and what you've done today - we came on the high-speed train from Madrid, I slept two hours on the plane - refuse help - no crib sheet, and no dictionary - put someone to the test - we'll see about that, what have you done today - give a verdict - passed, with distinction, you've done your homework, you can tell you've practised - move to the friendly you - and from today, the friendly you - complain - that wasn't in the book - and give good news - they've accepted me.

THE STORY

It's Friday, June 14th, 2030, six in the evening, at the street door of the building in Triana. Mom and Dad have come from Boston by way of Madrid and the high-speed train, for the summer, as they promised. Last July they climbed four floors on foot. This year Encarna is waiting inside, by the door of her lift. Dad has done his homework, a year of Spanish, and Encarna has three questions for him, one for each floor. At ten, dinner on the terrace, and Emily's phone buzzes. This is the conversation you'll be able to say by the end of the lesson.
