PART 3 · LESSON 28 OF 30 · 33 MINUTES

For Once in My Life

Tuesday afternoon on the maternity ward of the Macarena. Encarna comes to meet Paco in her best dress, Pablo's mother has told half of Triana, Lucia's father hands the baby over, and Lucia and Pablo have a question that leaves Encarna, for once in her life, without words. Then plenty. Greet a newborn and his visitors - what a dress, are you coming from a wedding, one has to come well dressed, hold him, he won't break, he weighs less than a King's cake - say that a secret is out - half of Triana already knows - ask someone to be a godmother - we want to ask you something, will you be his godmother, I can't think of anyone better - lose your words and find them - say something, you're scaring me, for once in my life I'm speechless, that's not a yes - and plan a baptism - at Saint Anne's, where I got married, if the godmother approves, three months to tell the whole of Seville.

THE STORY

It's Tuesday, June 18th, 2030, five in the afternoon, in room twelve of the maternity ward of the Virgen Macarena, in Seville. Paco is a day and a half old. Pablo's mother has been on her phone since noon, Lucia's father has held the baby all afternoon, and Encarna arrives in her best dress, as she promised on Monday at six in the morning. Lucia and Pablo have a question for her. In February, Encarna made two wishes out loud. This is the conversation you'll be able to say by the end of the lesson.
