THE STORY
The soi at first light: Aunt Oy on the stairs, the monks on their round, and Nui the motorbike-taxi rider at the mouth of the soi. Aunt Oy speaks to Jack plainly; Nui keeps the polite word with Jack, his customer, and Jack calls him Nui with the word for an older person.
