The Forecast

The television forecast in formal Thai: Bangkok, lowest twenty degrees; will it get colder? It will; Khon Kaen, ten! Grandma will be cold; Grandma is never cold; the day after tomorrow it'll warm up; the cool season is too short: getting colder, warming up.

THE STORY

The house behind the pier on a December evening, the television on: the announcer reads the forecast in formal Thai, then Uncle Chai and Jack talk. Uncle Chai speaks to Jack plainly; Jack keeps the polite word.
